Quartz and Its Physical Properties

Quartz is also known as Silicon Dioxide having the chemical formula SiO₂. It is most common as well as most abundant mineral that is available no the earth. It can be effortlessly found in approximately all geological environment and is a component of every type of rock. There are different types of quartz available such as:

• Macrocrystalline: It is an individual crystal, which is visible only to the unaided eye.
• Microcrystalline or Cryptodrystalline: The aggregates of the crystal are visible under high magnification only.

Usage Areas of Quartz

• Glass Industry:

Quartz and Glass Sand (Silica Sand) are wide used in the production of transparent, colored, translucent and clear glass in the forms of sheets or glassware. Ideally, the size of sand grains used in glass production is between 40 to 80 mesh (BSS).

• Abrasives:

Sands that are crushed from sandstone and quartzite are used in the the development of sand-paper, abrasive cloth and other products.

• Refractory:

Silica bricks are manufactured using quartz, quartzite, sandstone, and other siliceous rocks lime mica schists.

• Metallurgy:
